Bienvenue cher lecteur
An introductory note about "Le petit café du commerce". What is this ? "Le petit café du commerce" ? The small "Café du commerce" ! Which could be translated as an average and typical bar's name.
Well, you are on a blog inspired by "Le café du commerce", a column held in the eighties by a conservative industrial, Marcel Dassault, in a famous newspaper he owned, le Figaro. On this column, he expressed personnal views on various topics. His views mixed right wing propaganda with shameless self-promotion. He was a inventor : he created the Mirage, a combat aircraft and he invented the blog. It was offline, it was before the internet era, but it was nonetheless a political blog. While this paper is still among the major french newspapers, this column has disappeared since a very long time. It just lasted a few years. But it marked the memories of those who read it, and marked even more the memories of those who didn't. It's now an expression that entered the common language. Currently, saying some talk is from "café du commerce" is a pejorative french expression disparaging political speech as too simplistic, conservative and/or populist.
Well, as I aim at my reflexion to stay somewhat simple, rather conservative and based on common sense (something that upper class liberals design as populist), I think this might give this blog an appropriate title.
I am french, in my early 30s, and I write in english as I think this might be interesting to give a french point of vue readable by non french people. Readable by french people too. Well, at least readable by almost all of the french people I would like to have in my readership.
Some days, I'll give various views on various, often political topics.
Other days, I'll point you to some commented links, on other political or societal topics. Or just genuinely interesting articles.
And from time to time, I may discuss on IT, Free Software, ... which are topics raising valid philosophical and political questions. Net Neutrality for the win !!!
When I'll really digress, I'll talk mostly about video gaming.
But not too much, this will be mostly a political blog, written by someone who can be considered as both libertarian and conservative. What I would love would be a french tea party movement. I fear I may have to dream for a very long time before it happens.
